A Management Accountant normally works in industry, often as the Financial Director of a limited company or PLC, the Management Accountant is then working internally to provide strategic financial and operational information for decision making, as well as this a Management Accountant will also be working strategically within the business as part of the leadership team to help create value and drive the business forward.  All this means a Management Accountant must show sufficient management and leadership skills as well as excellent financial skills.

In the UK, there are currently no license requirements for an someone to describe themself or practice as an accountant (except in the areas of audit or insolvency) but in order to use certain titles the accountant must be a member of an appropriate professional body. A Chartered Management Accountant must be a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and can be recognised by the letters ACMA or FCMA.  CIMA is the only international professional qualification with a syllabus and examinations that focus solely on the education and training of Management Accountants in business and CIMA has an outstanding record in qualifying and supporting some of the world's best Chartered Management Accountants.  The CIMA syllabus includes a wide range of topics, as well as the traditional Financial Analysis, Financial Strategy and Performance Evaluation, such as Risk and Control, Marketing, Human Resources and Information Technology.
